I am thinking these recent pieces are leading to larger paintings incorporating some of these ideas and figures. Or smaller tighter paintings.
These pieces are created quite quickly, sometimes in under an hour. I start with the basic line structure and am using different brush applications and direction to develop or erase the line, trying to incorporate the form.
Using a palate knife for the application of the white, thinking this will be the basis of the glazing layers on the second application after drying.
this is an oil sketch on paper. these things usually go through one to three iterations....i used a palate knife for the highlights so it might have a long drying time between layers.
this week was spent preparing the files for my first coloring book....
this is the cover and one of the pages. the process is drawing freehand then redrawing in a vector drawing program to clean up the line. It has been an interesting project......also working on the clothing......but I would like to focus on painting.
I will be showing at the Toronto art fair coming up in April, and the Select art fair in NYC in May.....
New T-shirt........I painted this with metallic fabric paint. It seems to hold the color when heat setting much better than the traditional colors.
I am finding the drawing to be pretty interesting on the attire, very different than when drawing on paper or canvas.
As you know if you read my blog, I never know what is going to manifest when I draw. It is a bit scary to work this way......I think I am repeating myself but something unique always seems to come out. And each material I work with seems to lead to different results........fascinating......
This is a monoprint I made today.......large paper 30x40 inches. The first layer was a texture layer made with plastic wrap. I am not sure if it is finished, I am considering another overlayer but do not want to ruin what I have here.
these are the second and third state of todays print.
These are quick oil sketches......I am thinking of applying the print a day idea from last year to a series of these simple paintings.
this is a piece I have started a while back. The previous resolution was a monochromatic piece in a cool greenish blue. I have done a layer of blue glazes over that underpainting to this state. This is one of those paintings that never seems to be finished.
Seems I have this nervous energy these days, I am keeping loose and working fast. I have put the careful pieces to the side until I can refocus on that imagery.
