figure s

first and second state.......layered black first then used a palate knife to lay in the drawing......overprinted with the ghost ink keeping the foreground figures open.  thought about making the prints a bit more figurative.

this is the one I posted on facebook today.

Details

so my work is coming back from the Houston art fair from last weekend.  No Sales!  It cost a bit
to show so I am out that money.......but what other way do artists have to put their stuff in front of the public?

I did learn a lot!  One......put return labels in your shipping to the gallery so you can get your stuff back without a hassle.  Two......get the stuff to the show on time!  Which means find out what kind of window you have to get things there.....

Most important........make sure the work has no flaws......in my case it was the edges of the pieces which had rubbed off a bit (no image, just paint to finish).......this can be a deal breaker evidently, people want perfect.  And if this means frames, make sure they are all the same and really nice.....and the work shown should all be of a consistent look and feel for the booth presentation.

So you live and learn........I will keep trying shows but will be better prepared next time.  Oh yeah, if you have a card make sure it is one of the pieces shown, not something from a previous show or something like that.....so you need time to prepare and get the details right.........its all about the details!!!

I haven't printed in a while......most of my stuff is still on Governors Island......today I used my hand to create the textures......and a business card.  The green is an overprint of the first file.......

This was the first printing.

matrix of ideas.......

this is as far as I got today on this one.  for a while I thought perhaps it was finished......leaving the unfinished parts as is.......but I think there are things I can do......starting to see how the painting is structured and how I can pull stuff out from it.

I am starting to see the picture area as a complex amalgamation of ideas......even to the point of solving particular areas as seperate entities or ideas within the image matrix.  For example the haystack and the yellow mark in the bottom center.  That would be a seperate cell within the piece which has its own rules to resolve that area.........sorry babbling now.........

ice ice baby.

This is an ice pop I took out of the freezer and forgot to eat. This morning I realized that this ice pop is a metaphor for unintended consequences and decisions we make in life. Now I will never know the flavor or the experience of consuming this ice pop. Yet I can refreeze it and it will once again be an ice pop.........but will it ever be the same?
If I were to hang this object on my wall I can of course call it art, and therefore it would be art. The meaning can be interpreted as I see it or as a viewer sees it, or could be considered as another cynical ploy to justify a society in which all ideas are possible........
So is it my intention to create purpose out of a seemingly purposeless object create art?
