Back from Miami

Been a while since I have posted........I was in Art Basel Miami last week exhibiting at the Aqua art fair.  This is one of the largest gatherings of art dealers, curators, galleries, and artists in the USA and was pretty grand.

It is a big expense for me to participate and go there, but my goal this year is to be in as many shows like this as I can to help promote the artwork.

made a clock with one of my pieces........I am constantly trying my images on whatever commerical product I can find.....

 these are the 2 t-shirt designs.......

these 2 are of the same forms......the print above was started as a ghost image (from ink left on the plexiglass) and started new.....the piece to the left is color overprinting over a black and white image......

the forms repeat in interesting ways I think..........

this week I am pulling together everything for the Aqua art fair thing in Miami in December.  I have worked on the pieces going there and will frame them......put together all of the information and handouts.  also finish up the jacket I am making of the art work to wear around town.......

 yesterdays print............the black and white was the first state.......then I overprinted on a seperate piece of plexi with the color...........

this mornings print........I am thinking is this personal information about what has happened or what will transpire through the day.......can our subconscious preview what will happen in the future......and if so what are the implications about time and space........?...........

pencil sculpture

I recently went to the Dia center in Beacon NY and it got me thinking about conceptual work, which I only do on occasion.  I had a pad and color pencils and thought instead of drawing with them create a sculpture which reflects the concept of drawing.  the colors of the pencils and the paper create a drawing of sorts.........and it reflects architecture I think........

this piece started as a line drawing which I converted to an "illustrator" file, which is a vector file

what I do is redraw each shape with a pen tool. once it is done the image can be resized to any size image.  the output of this image will be 6 feet in length and 4 feet high.  the conversion process is very labor intensive as each shape has to be drawn separately.

I have been working on pieces to take to an art fair in Miami in December.  I am bringing a few paintings and prints but am also making books, t-shirts, and making an art jacket to wear around town.  Marketing yourself seems to be really important in the art world......

many layers on this one....actually went too far and was going to toss the image alltogether.  then figured I could try to bring it back a bit with the white.  I am pretty happy with the result and happy I did not give up on it..........

Rosetta stone

This one reflects one of my original ideas. This is a tablet with abstract symbols, like a rosetta stone.  When I first started out I would create pages of these forms.....like chinese characters, but really small abstract compositions.  I incorporated these forms into my early pen and ink works.

this is a design for a t shirt series I am working on.  I am heading to Miami for the art fairs and thought it would be fun to hand out a few shirts to people on the street.........

blue layers

the black and white is the original print.....the print above is 2 layers of transparent glaze......first being cobalt blue, the second blue mixed with black. each overlayer exposed the original black and some of the white layer for density.

many layers on this one......it started with the idea of an equation......imaginary........in black and white then added a few individual color layers.  I am considering adding another layer of transparent blue....

the quiet days are the most harrowing sometime........

this is a new tack on the prints.......the paper is from a roll and is 24"x50".........thinking of making scrolls that would hang from the ceiling......this is my first attempt............
